Headed Impact is officially out! I hope everyone who has watched enjoyed. Again the whole point of the documentary was to educate those about the risk of concussion, I felt that has been achieved. Has progress been made ? I would personally say so, sporting bodies (especially the FA) have made good progress, especially with limiting heading at youth level in training.
Ultimately, concussions are part of sport, but it's about understanding how to treat them, knowing the risks and not rushing back. Everyone who I interviewed says their is a stigma to go back into sport too soon, remember the headway saying, if in doubt sit it out.
What have I learnt ? to be honest, a fair amount. From my own personally youth football career, you do see a fair amount of minor concussions, players would return after a couple of weeks out and all would be normal.
But the more you dive into concussions and head injuries within sport, you realise the seriousness and like Sarah from Neuro Rehab said, they can even be fatal.
Ultimately, concussions in can leave massive dents in peoples lives, from not being able to play the sports they love to even playing with their children or doing day to day activities.
My final piece of advice is please don't risk it, if you have any doubts, please get it checked out.
